SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte (PIA) — Under the Department of Agriculture-Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) Program, the California Farmers Association (CFA) of Sitio California in Barangay Opong, Tagana-an, Surigao del Norte, purchased ready-to-lay (RTL) chickens to continually fulfill their developmental plans for calendar year 2026.
The CFA, through its own income, purchased 200 heads of RTL chickens amounting to P110,000 as part of the expansion of the group’s egg production project aimed to meet the growing demand of fresh table eggs in their community.
CFA Treasurer Orlino P. Bermudez Jr. said, “The delivery of the chickens is just on time as we just finished the preparations needed for the expansion of our poultry farm.”
He shared that as the members facilitated the acceptance of the chickens, they could not hide their happiness that their plan to nurture their egg retailing business turned into reality.
Meanwhile, CFA Secretary Lenie G. Hurboda also said that seeing their poultry farm grow is an added motivation for the group members to be more involved in the operations and management of their egg production project. “My utmost gratitude to the DA-SAAD Program for reaching our island barangay. This opportunity that enabled us to put up a sustainable income source is something we will always cherish.”
The group also recognized the support and technical assistance that they received from the provincial and municipal agriculture offices, especially in managing the wellness of their layer chickens.
It can be recalled that on January 2026, the LGU of Tagana-an, Surigao del Norte, provided the CFA with the necessary materials to build their additional chicken house to accommodate the layer chickens that they ordered and received.
Three years since the start of its project implementation in Sitio California, DA’s program on SAAD continues to guide the said farmers’ association with the necessary foundation to be able to independently manage their operations and gain confidence in decision-making for the betterment of the organization.
