DTI strengthens PH Halal industry; Caraga MSMEs earn certification
By Nora L. Molde
BUTUAN CITY (PIA) — As part of the Philippine government’s efforts to strengthen the country’s Halal industry and expand the global competitiveness of local enterprises, nine micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) from the Caraga region, including four from Agusan del Norte, have secured certification under the Halal Industry Development and Promotion Project (HIDPP).
The MSMEs underwent comprehensive Halal certification evaluations conducted by the Halal International Chamber of Commerce and Industries of the Philippines, Inc. (HICCIP), the country’s recognized Halal certifying body.
The certification, valid for three years, confirms compliance with established Halal standards on quality, safety, and ethical production.
The Halal-certified MSMEs from Agusan del Norte are Amamio Farm of Nasipit; Deseo Food Products of Remedios T. Romualdez; Simbalan Farmers Agriculture Cooperative / Buenas Coffee Processing of Buenavista; and Butuan Coconut Products Inc. of Butuan City.
DTI Agusan del Norte Provincial Director Lorijane D. Sacote emphasized the strategic value of Halal certification in expanding market access for local enterprises. “Halal certification is not only a seal of quality and safety, but a strategic pathway for MSMEs to access both domestic and international markets, particularly the global Halal economy,” Sacote said.
Covering a wide range of food, beverage, agricultural, and value-added products, the certification positions the MSMEs to meet the growing demand for Halal-compliant goods and enables them to participate more competitively in trade fairs, institutional markets, and export-related activities.
The achievement supports the government’s Halal Industry Development agenda by strengthening MSME participation, promoting inclusive economic growth, and reinforcing the Philippines’ position as an emerging player in the global Halal market. (NCLM, PIA Agusan del Norte)
