SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte (PIA)—The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Caraga, in partnership with the city government of Surigao through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), turned over P3.75 million in livelihood assistance to nine Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) associations on August 1, here.

CSWD Officer Lenie S. Liray said, “This grant supports a total of 229 members from various  barangay associations,  enabling them to launch or expand community-based projects.”

The beneficiaries include associations from the barangays of Balibayon, Day-asan, Libuac, Luna, Mabua, Trinidad, Mabini, and Quezon. They  received financial grants to support their livelihood projects such as marine product processing, food processing, chicken and egg production, dry goods wholesaling, fish sauce or “patis” production. The grant was also intended as additional capital for fresh milk production, and Block Tienda.

Leonida, one of the member beneficiaries from Barangay Day-asan expressed  heartfelt gratitude to DSWD and to the city government for the support.

“This assistance has not only provided me with the means to earn a living, but has also given me hope and the confidence to succeed. I am committed to making this opportunity flourish and become a productive member of our community.” Leonida said.

The DSWD’s Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) is a community-based program which provides capacity building to improve the program participants’ socio-economic status. It also serves the beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), hoping to sustain and expand beyond the five-year socio-economic intervention of the program.
