By Nora L. Molde

BUTUAN CITY (PIA) — A historic and transformative chapter in the province of Agusan del Norte’s digital journey unfolded as the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Caraga officially launched the province-wide Free Wi-Fi for All program, achieving 100 percent coverage across all municipalities and its lone city.

With 149 active access points and 47 newly activated sites, the initiative marked a bold step toward digital inclusion, ensuring that every resident, wherever they are, can enjoy free access to information, opportunities, and innovation.

In light of these declarations, the full province-wide Free Wi-Fi for All Program launched in Agusan del Norte aligns seamlessly with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s national vision for digital inclusion. By ensuring every resident, regardless of location, has free and reliable internet access, the province is directly advancing equity, opportunity, and community development.

Governor Ma. Angelica Rosedell M. Amante, along with Congressional Representative Dale B. Corvera, local chief executives, and the Department of the Interior and Local Government Agusan del Norte led by Provincial Director Ellen Vee P. Chua, expressed full support to the program. They also pushed for its expansion to public schools, barangay halls, and other underserved areas to further empower communities and accelerate progress.

Gov. Amante highlighted the program’s vital role in bridging the digital divide, saying it is “a big boost in empowering communities and sustaining the province’s development.”

With this achievement, Agusan del Norte now stands tall on the digital map, connected, inclusive, and future-ready.

“The Free Wi-Fi for All Program champions our collective vision: a digitally-enabled Agusan del Norte where connectivity equals opportunity,” said DICT Caraga Regional Director Mario P. Cuñado.

“Through this digital revolution, we are building a province where every citizen is connected, empowered, and ready for the future,” Dir. Cuñado added.

In Caraga, DICT reported 100 percent coverage in all the 73 cities and municipalities in the region with 1,227,221 users served as of July 31, 2025. (NCLM, PIA Agusan del Norte)
