Rescuers’ convention set in SurSur

TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur, July 17 (PIA) – The provincial government of Surigao del Sur thru the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (PDRRM) Office is all set for the 2-day Rescuer’s Summit to be held on July 18-19 at Villa Maria Luisa Hotel, this city.

According to PDRRM officer Abel de Guzman, the conduct of the said activity is in line with the celebration of the National Disaster Resilience Month 2017 with the theme, “Kamalayan sa Kahandaan, Katumbas ay Kaligtasan (4Ks)."

De Guzman added that the event aims to foster camaraderie among the local volunteer rescuers and the formulation of unifying local operation guidelines during disaster.

Based on the program of activities, a motorcade will be held before the opening ceremony followed by the awarding of Gawad KALASAG 2017 provincial winners and cutting of ribbon showcasing Local DRRM-CCA best bractices. Convention proper will be in the afternoon of Day-1 and open forum, it was learned.

On day-2, there will be a tree planting activity dubbed as “Tanim Ko, Kaligtasan Nyo” at 5:00 a.m. to be held at Ihawan Creek in Barangay Awasian, this city.

The Formulation of the Local Operation Guidelines Workshop is also scheduled on day-2 participated by the volunteer rescuers, and 19 local DRRM officers of this province. (PIA-Surigao del Sur)


4Ps beneficiaries attend consumer education seminar in Surigao Norte

SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte, July 17 (PIA) – A total of 576 4Ps (Pamilyang Pilipino Pantawid Program) beneficiaries attended the 2-day Consumer Education Seminar (CES) conducted by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) held recently in Mainit town, this province.

DTI provincial director Celestino L. Negapatan said the seminar was conducted to provide understanding on the basic rights and responsibilities of consumers.

He explained that they had given emphasis on topics on how to file complaints at the Consumer Welfare Desk of the business establishments or at the DTI Provincial Office in case they have problems on the products they have purchase and participants were also briefed on the salient features of Republic Act 10909 otherwise known as the No Shortchanging Act of 2016.

“They were also made to understand the benefits of asserting heir rights as consumers so they can save money and avoid potential problems and hazards in buying defective, sub-standard or poor quality products,” Negapatan said.

Some tips on how to identify products that met quality standard were also shared to the 4Ps beneficiaries. They were as well advised to become wise and vigilant consumers so they can protect themselves and their families from malpractices of some business establishments. (DTI-SDN/PIA-Surigao del Norte)


Rural Enterprises, infra projects up in IFAD Mission visit in Agusan Norte

BUTUAN CITY, July 17 - The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) Mission Team conducted an implementation support mission in line with the Project ConVERGE (Convergence for Value-Chain Enhancement for Rural Growth and Empowerment) and visited the participating farmer-groups in TUJAKITSAN Cluster (Tubay, Jabonga, Kitcharao and Santiago) Agusan del Norte on June 28, 2017.

Agusan del Norte Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer II  Andre B. Atega welcomed the guests  from IFAD Mission headed by the Country Program Officer Jerry Pacturan; Central Project Management Office, Faisar A. Mambuay; Regional Project Management Office headed by Engr. Felix B. Aguhob and staffs.

The mission has discussion with coop-officers of San Isidro Upland Farmers Multi-Purpose Cooperative (SIUFMULCO), as the proponent and lead organization of the 21 Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Organizations in TUJAKITSAN ARC assisted by the project.

During the visit, the mission discussed various projects in line with the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) poverty reduction program through Project ConVERGE funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).

IFAD Country Program Officer Jerry Pacturan validated the various  sub-projects that include Support for Farm and Enterprise Development (SFED) and Rural Infrastructure Investments under the Integrated Smallholders Agricultural and Rural Enterprise Development (I-SHARED) Component.

The SFED subcomponent  comprises farmer production improvement, value addition and diversification, market and investment facilitation and rural finance facilitation.

Jason Lim of Ching Bee Corporation expressed willingness to help SIUFMULCO in area of financial support if the supply of abaca will increase due to the abaca production expansion funded by ConVERGE.

“I will increase the trading capital if the coop seen to double their abaca production soon,” Lim said.

Ching Bee has been partnering with SIUFMULCO for years providing capital amounted to P5 Million per week to be liquidated thru delivery of abaca fiber of 200 tons per week.

Based on the latest available data from Provincial Project Management Office (PPMO), the total direct beneficiaries of the project to include capability development intervention is about 1,586 of which 893 are agrarian reform beneficiaries  (ARBs).

Aside from the support for farm and enterprise development, the Project ConVERGE provided rural infrastructure such as farm-to-market road that will open up economic opportunities of agrarian reform beneficiaries and farm-workers in TUJAKITSAN ARC. (DAR-Agusan del Norte/PIA-Agusan del Norte)


Caraga to kick off RDP launching in Dinagat Islands

BUTUAN CITY, July 14 - Caraga will kick off the Regional Development Plan (RDP) 2017-2022 provincial launching in the Municipality of Dinagat, Province of Dinagat Islands on Wednesday, July 19, 2017.

The Caraga Regional Development Council (RDC) approved and adopted the RDP through RDC Resolution No. 8, series of 2017 during its Full Council Meeting on March 2, 2017.

The RDP is anchored on the 0-10 point Socioeconomic Agenda of the Duterte administration, which is geared towards realizing AmBisyon Natin 2040 of a “Matatag, Maginhawa, at Panatag na Buhay.” At the short-term, the RDP will lay down the foundation for inclusive growth, a high trust society and a globally competitive knowledge economy at the regional level by 2022.

By 2022, Caraga aims to become the “Fishery, Agro-Forestry, Mineral, and Eco-tourism Center of the Country” by developing the region’s abundant resources in fishery, agriculture, forestry, mining, and eco-tourism. These sectors have been observed as the growth drivers of the region’s economy, generating employment for the region.

The improvement of the productivity of the said sectors will result in employment creation and poverty reduction.

Surigao Norte guv to deliver 2017 SOPA

SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte, July 17 (PIA) – Governor Sol Matugas is set to deliver her State of the Province Address (SOPA) today, July 17, 2017 at the Provincial Convention Center, this city.

This year’s SOPA will be focusing on harmonious partnership to sustain progress through the gains of HEALS  (Health, Education and Environment, Agri-Aquaculture Livelihood and Tourism, Social Services) PLUS agenda, and in shaping “Bag-ong Surigao” (new Surigao).

Governor Matugas will underline her legacy for the three uninterrupted terms of her administration, after winning a fresh mandate form her constituents.

She will expound on how she developed the infrastructure base, promoted transparency and good governance and expanded HEALS program.

In addition, she will also highlight several infrastracture projects that were completed in Siargao Island and mainland Surigao del Norte, as well as the major projects that are still on-going.

With all the effort of the 1st district congressman Bingo Matugas, the province has seen all the successful implementation of several infrastructure projects implemented through the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), TIEZA and the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

For the infrastructure development in the mainland, more roads were rehabilitated, improved, maintained and constructed, and other remaining projects are still on-going.

Various projects were also completed for government services and there are still on-going constructions pursued by the administration.

Moreover, land development structures were also 100 percent completed, as well as other structures that provide support for the delivery of basic services.


Since the day she assumed responsibility, the governor has initiated and sustained concrete reforms in upholding and maintaining good governance in the context of promoting transparency and accountability, providing and promoting public participation and empowering local government units (LGUs), ensuring responsive services and policies, strengthening local revenue generations and developing the human resource.
